A couple of days after Baghbar MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed’s demand for Miya Museum at Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati created immense controversy in the state, another Congress MLA has now come up with a demand for a Bengali Museum.
The demand has been made by Karimganja (North) MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, who said that a Bengali Museum at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra should be set-up to highlight the cultural richness of the Bengali community.

The MLA even went on to claim that the Bengali community, in comparison to others, had the maximum contributions in India’s freedom struggle.
“The Bengalis have the highest contribution in India’s freedom struggle. A museum will go a long way in highlighting the sacrifices and contribution of the community,” the MLA said.
“Such a museum of utmost importance should be set-up at Sankardeva Kalakshetra, which is the assemblage of Assam’s various communities,” he further added.
