COVID-19 fatality in Assam rose to 59 after a 65-year-old woman succumbed to the infection at Mangaldai Civil Hospital on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as one Rekha Dutta, a resident of LNB Road of Mangaldai town.
The virus was detected in her body only after her death.
The sexagenarian lady was rushed to the hospital after she complained about the difficulty in breathing.
A hypertension patient, Dutta died soon after he was admitted to the hospital.
Assam so far has recorded a total of 25,092 COVID-19 cases with 17,095 active cases. A total of 7936 patients have already recovered and three persons have migrated out of the state.
