139 new helpline number of Indian railways

If you have any hassle during your train journey, now you just have to dial 139- the common helpline number of the Indian Railways for your quick grievance redressal and enquiries.

In a statement on Thursday, the Indian Railways informed that it had integrated its helpline numbers to a single number for the benefits of the passengers.

“This new helpline number will take over all existing helpline numbers, except 182. It will be easy for passengers to remember this number to connect with the railways for all their needs during train travel,” the statement added.

“The helpline number 182 will be in use for railway security,” the statement further said.

The statement further informed that 139 will be available in 12 languages and will be based on the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS).

“A call can be made on this number from any mobile handsets and can be accessed by every mobile user,” the statement added.

“For security and medical assistance, passengers will have to press 1, which will immediately connect the callers to call centre executives,” the statement said.

“Passengers will have to press 2 for enquiries and this will connect them to a sub-menu depending on the requirements,” it added.

To book a catering related complaint the passengers will require press 3 and for general complaints, they will have to press 4.

“For vigilance-related complaints, passengers will have to press 5, for queries during accidents passengers will require to press 6, to know the status of complaints they will need to press 9 and then * (star) to talk to a call centre executive,” the statement added.
