A World Health Organization (WHO) team of international experts will arrive in China to investigate the origins of the Covid-19 virus on January 14.
The 10-member team of experts has been waiting to start investigations into the origins of the pandemic that was first reported in the Wuhan province in China in December 2019.
While many countries are battling to curb surging infections, especially by the new mutant Covid-19 strain, China has managed to control further infections.
Their arrival was much delayed because of a lack of authorization by Chinese authorities, a report stated.
Although China’s National Health Commission announced the arrival date of the international team, it did not divulge any detail about the visit.
Foreign countries have time and again accused China of a cover-up that delayed its initial response to the Covid-19 virus, allowing it to spread to other parts of the world.
However, China’s foreign ministry termed it as a ‘misunderstanding’ by the countries.
The United States while calling for a transparent investigation into the entire episode, also criticized certain WHO terms that allowed Chinese scientists to conduct the first phase of preliminary research.
Meanwhile, Beijing has been desperately trying to tell the world about how and when the pandemic broke out in the country.
The Chinese government said that more and more studies revealed that it emerged in multiple regions globally.
