The formal inaugural function was held at well-decorated Hafta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal as the main venue.
The festival will conclude on November 30, 2018.
The festival was named after shy and gentle brow-antlered deer, locally known as Sangai, the State animal found only at floating Keibul Lamjao National Park, the natural habitat in Loktak Lake.
Union Defence Minister Niramala Sitharaman was the Chief Guest at the inaugural function.
Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Ministers, MLAs and top officials attended the formal inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Defence Minister highlighted the State’s potential in natural resources not to speak of the Loktak Lake, the largest fresh water lake in North East, while State Governor Dr Heptulla said the festival helps in promoting the traditional activities of the State to the outside world.
Manipur Chief Minister Biren also spoke on the occasion.
While uploading a few images of the inaugural function, Manipur CM N Biren stated: “Unity in diversity in Manipur Sangai Festival 2018. Come out and enjoy the heavenly cultural delights of magnificent Manipur.”
