More than 100 doctors and health staffers in Kolkata have tested positive for Covid-19 during the last three days.
They have either gone into isolation or been hospitalized at different Kerala hospitals.
As many as 70 doctors and health workers, including the principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, have tested positive.
On the other hand, 30 doctors and six health workers at the Chittaranjan Seva Sadan were infected with the virus.
At NRS Medical College and Hospital, 61 doctors and health workers as well as patients undergoing treatment for other diseases tested positive on Monday.
The hostel of R Ahmed Dental College had to be vacated after several senior and junior doctors tested positive and several doctors and health workers tested positive at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology as well.
During the last one week, Kolkata reported a total of 9,752 cases in just one week
“It takes at least a week since infection or emergence of primary symptoms to reaching hospitalization stage for a patient. We can have a clearer picture of whether the symptoms mostly remain mild or cause serious effects in another week or so,” said a senior doctor told Outlook.
As per a report, there is a slight increase in admission in Covid-19 beds in government hospitals but most of these patients are not in a critical state.
As of Monday, most of the government hospitals in Kolkata had 75-85% of their Covid-19 beds vacant.
