Majoni Asom, a woman cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) along with her daughter arrived at her husband’s home in Assam’s Sivasagar district on Friday evening.

She is the wife of ULFA-I’s self-styled captain late Diganta Baruah alias Rupantar Kakati alias Rupantar Asom, who died due to ailments in the jungles of Myanmar on June 20, 2019.

A trained cadre of the ULFA-I, Majoni Asom decided to leave the outfit’s camp in Myanmar for the sake of her daughter’s education and future following the demise of her husband.

Majoni Asom is the daughter of Dimbeswar Das and Debeswari Das from Udaypur at Dimow in Sivasagar district.

Talking to media persons on Saturday, Majoni Asom said, “After my husband’s demise, I decided to leave the camp in Myanmar for the sake of my four-year-old child’s education and future.”

She informed that she left the Myanmar camp with permission from the higher authorities of the outfit.

She arrived at her husband’s home in Kathpara of Sivasagar district via Nagaland.

Majoni Asom told the media persons that she had joined the ULFA in 2013 and later tied the knot with Rupantar Asom.

The woman ULFA-I cadre also informed that she met ULFA-I Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom in 2015 in Myanmar.

The ULFA-I cadre, who received armed training in Myanmar, also informed about meeting outfit’s top leaders like Michael Asom and A Zed Asom.

Majoni Asom, who was a member of the publicity unit of the outfit, was working as an Assamese teacher in a private college at Jorhat before her joining the ULFA-I.

On Saturday, Majoni Asom called on the Sivasagar superintendent of police, Amitabh Sinha.

The Sivasagar police chief informed that she expressed her desire to surrender after meeting him.

The SP said necessary arrangement will be made for her surrender only after examination whether there is any case registered against her in the police stations.
