An ugly clash between party workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance in Tripura State Government, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) left at least 23 injured in the State.

The bloody clash took place near Chailengtha CRPF camp in Longtharai Valley sub-division on Tuesday.

The clash triggered widespread resentment among supporters of both parties, the BJP and IPFT.

It all started when IPFT activists staged a road blockade around mid-day taking virtual control of vehicular traffic along Chawmanu-Maynama road.

They were protesting alleged meddling by the saffron party in IPFT’s organizational matter in Chawmanu Assembly constituency.

Hundreds of IPFT supporter blocked the Chawmanu-Maynama road demanding that BJP MLA of Chawmanu, Shambu Lal Chakma should come to address their grievances but he did not turn up.

As the blockade continues, IPFT MLA of Raima Valley constituency rushed to Maynama tried to pacify the agitators.

The SDM of Longthrai Valley sub-division and senor police officers also rushed to the spot to take control of the situation.

After much persuasion, the IPFT supporters withdrew the blockade but a clash erupted near Chailengtha CRPF camp immediately thereafter.

The clash left at least 23 injured, among whom 11 were hospitalized.

However, all of the injured are stated to be out of danger.
