Imphal: The Meitei Alliance condemned the ongoing violence in Manipur and called on the government to take immediate steps to protect civilians, investigate security lapses and prosecute those responsible for recent cross-border incursions.
The Alliance expressed concern over attacks in Kamjong, Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts, which it said had severely affected the Liangmai and Tangkhul Naga communities.
It alleged that heavily armed militants from the Myanmar-based Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) were carrying out the attacks.
The Alliance also condemned the reported beheading of Naga civilian Ajinbou Ringkangmai. It said his head was still missing and called for the recovery of his remains and the prompt arrest of those responsible.
The Alliance questioned why attacks, property damage and livelihood losses continued more than three years into the conflict despite the presence of Central and state security forces.
It also raised the plight of tens of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in overcrowded relief camps under poor conditions, with no clear timeline for their return home.
The Alliance criticised political parties for focusing on electoral strategies ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. It said the rehabilitation of civilians and the restoration of peace should take priority over political interests.
It also urged the state and Central governments to secure vulnerable border areas and ensure that displaced people can return home with dignity.
