In an encouraging move, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) is all set to introduce the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus for Tripura students at the secondary and higher secondary level from the next academic session beginning from April 1 next year.

Sources in the education department disclosed that preparation for introducing the NCERT syllabus is at the final stage and the new academic session commencing from April 1 next year will have the CBSE syllabus.

Though officially, the academic session will commence from April 1, but classes will start from January as usual and till March 31, the students will attend special classes on mathematics, science and English.

Sources in the Education Department also added that teachers in all the schools will be instructed to take special classes in the three subjects which the students find difficulty in understanding and expression.

Sources said that in the first year the new NCERT-based syllabus will start from class I to class IX and class XI but in the next year, that is, from April 2020 to May 2021, the new syllabus will be included for students of class X and class XII.

At present all the Central Schools and schools in five states have NCERT syllabus, while Tripura will be the sixth one to have NCERT based syllabus for its students at the school level.

Notably, State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath has been advocating introduction of NCERT syllabus since he assumed charge after the new government took over the reigns in the State.
