Protesting against the Tripura government’s decision to convert Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas into a COVID-19 care centre in Agartala’s New Capital Complex, people in large numbers came out to the street on Sunday morning and blockade the VIP road of the city.

TheTripura government decided to convert the youth club into a COVID-19 care centre after a spike in the number of cases was reported from the state.

Approximately 300 people can be treated at a time in the youth club.

The hostel is situated close to the Tripura secretariat and assembly building.

As per reports, locals came out to the street on Sunday morning after 27 COVID-19 patients were shifted there on Saturday night.

People protesting have said that as the hostel is in a residential area, the government is risking the lives of many by bringing in COVID-19 patients.

As the situation turned chaotic, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The police also had to resort to lathi-charge to control the situation.

Local BJP MLA Dilip Das was also rushed to the spot and he talked with the locals and pacified them by clearing their doubts.
