However, in contrary to the statement of NC Debbarma, IPFT General Secretary Mebar Jamatia said that “discussions on seat sharing for the TTAADC elections are still on with the BJP”.

Mebar Jamatia further added that the IPFT would contest the TTAADC elections on their demand for “separate Tipraland”.

Notably, the IPFT had break its ties with the Pradyot Deb Barman-led TIPRA (The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance).

Later, the IPFT had announced that it would contest the TTAADC elections in alliance with the BJP.

However, seat sharing discussions with the BJP failed to bear any fruit and the IPFT on Sunday announced candidates for 18 seats.

Elections to the 30-member TTAADC is slated to be held on April 4.

Out of 30 members, 28 members are elected through adult suffrage, while 2 members are nominated by the Governor of Tripura.

Out of 28 elected seats, 25 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
