A couple in Tripura has been booked by the police for allegedly trying to sell their newborn baby girl.
Residents of Tripura’s Naliabari village in Champahower, the couple- Madhabi Debbarma and Sushil Debbarma- said that they had put the baby up for adoption and that they did not or to sell the newborn.
It is alleged that the duo decided to sell the baby for bailing them out of the acute financial crisis.
This was their fourth child and they already have three children.
The girl was born on July 19 (Friday) last.
The duo was picked up by the police after a complaint was lodged against them by Madhabi’s father Jogesh Debbarma.
The complaint was lodged at Champahower police station of Khowai district against.
In his complaint, Debbarma accused his daughter and son-in-law of selling the newborn.
Madhabi, refusing the charges of selling the child, said that they were not in a position to bear the expenses of a fourth child and hence they decided to put it up for adoption.
The baby was rescued by the police.
