A possible rebellion seems to be brewing within the ranks of Tripura BJP with many party workers and supporters ‘not willing’ to accept IPFT as the saffron party’s alliance partner for the upcoming TTAADC elections.

BJP workers in several constituencies from where the IPFT will contest the TTAADC elections have expressed resentment and said that they “will not accept the IPFT candidates”.

Demanding party’s candidates, angry BJP workers vandalised their own offices in several constituencies and have threatened to quit the party.

Additional forces had to be deployed at Mandai in West Tripura district on Wednesday night after situation there turned ugly with angry BJP workers resorted to vandalism.

There seems to be no end of problems for the Tripura BJP in regards to the saffron brigade’s alliance with the IPFT for the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) elections.

It may be mentioned here that leaders of Tripura BJP from the tribal areas of the State including MP Rebati Tripura had insisted on contesting the TTAADC elections alone.

However, persistent pressure from the party’s central leadership, the BJP had to enter into an alliance with the IPFT for the TTAADC elections.

The BJP-IPFT alliance recently announced its candidates for the TTAADC elections.

While, the BJP will contest in 11 seats, the IPFT will contest in 14 seats.

Both the parties will further lock horns for ‘friendly contests’ in 3 seats.
