Feud seems to have emerged within the BJP ranks in Tripura over having “friendly contests” with IPFT in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

While the BJP’s central leadership has pressed through Chief Minister Biplab Deb to go ahead with having “friendly contests” with the IPFT, the tribal areas leaders of the Tripura BJP have opposed the suggestion.

“CM Biplab Deb has said that he has been asked by the Central BJP leaders to have friendly contests with IPFT in some seats. However, we want to put candidates in all 28 seats,” said BJP MP Rebati Tripura.

A crucial meeting of BJP leaders in Tripura was held at Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s residence late on Monday night to discuss the party’s strategy for the upcoming TTAADC meeting.

BJP MLAs from Tripura’s tribal areas, BJP Janajati Morcha leaders among others attended the meeting.

It may be mentioned here that the IPFT had entered into an alliance with the Pradyot Deb Barman-led TIPRA for the TTAADC elections.

However, a few weeks after forging the alliance with the TIPRA, the IPFT snapped ties with the party and re-aligned itself with the BJP for the TTAADC elections.

The IPFT, a couple of days back, had announced 18 candidates for the TTAADC elections saying that it will come up with more candidates list soon.

The BJP, on the other hand, has alleged that the IPFT announced candidates for the TTAADC elections without discussing with them.
