Agartala: The Tipra Motha Party, an ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura, on Sunday announced its plans to submit a memorandum to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on November 14.

The party urgently seeks for action on three key demands – swift implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, timely conduct of village council elections and adoption of the 125th Constitutional Amendment in Parliament.

Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said it was decided to expedite these demands during a recent party meeting with the MLAs, district council members and other leaders.

“On November 14, we will submit a memorandum to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu in a block-wise manner, emphasising the need for immediate implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, holding of village council elections and adoption of the 125th Constitutional Amendment,” he said.

He said the party will organise a statewide peace rally as part of its efforts to submit the memorandum.

Debbarma noted the significance of the 125th Amendment, emphasising that while a Chief Minister can provide support, the authority to implement the amendment rests with the Parliament.

“There is a consensus on this issue among major parties like the BJP and Congress in Parliament, so there’s no reason to delay further. This is crucial for our community,” he added.

Debbarma also referred to a High Court directive that called for the timely conduct of village council elections.

He further said the second phase of discussions on the Tiprasa Accord is scheduled for late November during which the party will continue to advocate for its core demands.

“Our demands are not against any particular group but are focused on advancing the interests of the indigenous people. During this discussion, I will negotiate with the Centre with one purpose – to uplift my people. I am here not to serve the BJP, Congress or CPIM, but to represent my community,” Debbarma said.
