Sikkim pugilists are back home with 14 medals from the 1st edition of Boxing Federation of India Elite Men’s & Women’s East Zone Boxing Championship 2018 held from March 9 to 11 at Dergaon in Assam. Sikkim has bagged 1 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals in the championship.

The only gold for the state was won by Sukraj Rai, while silver medallists are Roshni Subba, Neera Kumari Sharma, Pawan Singh Darnal, Jas Bahadur Mangar and Yougel Subba. Likewise, Puja Ranpal, Sabitri Limboo, Sunita Rai, Raj Kumar, Sukraj Rai, Prem Kumar Rai, Subash Tamang and Saurav Gurung won a bronze medal each in the championship.  Roshni Subba was also adjudged as the Best Challenger in the championship.

The 14-member team of Sikkim pugilists was accompanied by Sports & Youth Affairs Department coach, Vabiya Gurung as women’s team each, SYA coach, Mukesh Rai as men’s coach and Sunita Chettri as team manager. The team reaches back home this afternoon.

Women’s coach, Vabiya Gurung expressed her happiness on the performance of the state pugilists in the championship as all team members won a medal each for the state.
