Nagaland on Wednesday averted repeat of March 5, 2015 like incident when an irate mob tied up a rape accused on the iron structure of a billboard and started pelting stones and whipping him. However, police rushed to the spot and rescued the rape accused from the spot.

A 12-year old girl was allegedly raped by the accused in his 30s after abducting her at Mon town in Nagaland on Wednesday morning.

On knowing about the incident, people gathered to the site of the incident and apprehended the culprit. According to social media report, the accused, identified as Rahul Sen, is a driver.

When contacted officer in-charge of Mon police station Tazom Konyak said the public beat up the accused naked after tying him up with an iron structure. Police rushed to the spot and rescued the alleged rapist, who is now in Mon police custody, the OC said.

Konyak said he will be sent for medical examination after which investigation into the case will begin. He refused to divulge further details.

On 5 March 2015, a mob of about 7000 people broke Dimapur Central Jail and dragged a rape accused from the jail before lynching him to death.
