Three youths were arrested along with two firearms and ammunition in South Tripura‘s Sabroom town on Sunday said, a senior police official said.
Two 9-mm pistols, seven cartridges and three magazines were seized from the possession of the three youths.
Jai Singh Meena, Superintendent of Police (SP), South Tripura district said, “Three persons were detained along with two pistols, seven cartridges, and two magazines. Preliminary interrogation reveals that the pistols were brought from Bihar by train.”
“The pistols were purchased at the prices ranging between Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 and were supposed to be sent to Bangladesh. The trio was travelling in a car with a registration of Agartala. The guns were purchased from Bhagalpur of Bihar,” informed Meena.
The three were intercepted while they were travelling in a car in Sabroom, around 140 km south of Agartala.
All the three are residents of Tripura’s bordering Sepahijala district’s Bishalgarh sub-division.
The police official said that senior police and intelligence officials are now interrogating the youths on their motives and backgrounds.
