In another incident of man-elephant conflict, a youth has been trampled to death by an elephant in South Tripura on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place in Maharani area under Udaipur Sub-division in which Barjasadhan Jamatia, a ‘mahut’ was killed when an elephant ran amok and trampled him, said police sub-inspector Sankar Saha of Khowai Police Station.

“Though Jamatia tried to escape, but failed in his attempt and died on the spot,” said a local farmer.

In the meantime, after the incident, the elephant entered the jungle.

“Police and forest officials are trying to capture the elephant to avoid more casualty or destruction of property,” said sources.

In a separate incident, Khowai Police recovered a decomposed body of a person from the jungle areas of Kalitilla beside the Jawahar Navodaya School.

Police identified the body as that of one Kanu Deb, who was missing from Khowai area for the last one week.

Police are investigating the incident and have registered a case of unnatural death.
