On Saturday, principal director, school education department, Shanavas C. issued an order directing those teachers, who have kept proxies in their place of posting, to immediately report to their respective schools.

The teachers were also asked to send two of their photographs – one in front of the school and the other teaching inside the classroom – to the mail id [email protected] every working day from their own email ids registered with the department.

The order said strict disciplinary action, including suspension/termination of service, would be initiated for the failure to comply with the directive.

It said 438 teachers from different districts of the state as listed in the department’s website education – nagaland.gov.in – had been found keeping proxy teachers in their place of posting during a verification drive carried out by the directorate of school education in October-November 2019.

Extending support to the exercise carried out by the department to check the menace and practice of keeping bogus proxy teachers in the state, the ANSTA said it is reprehensible that the teachers indulge in such ignominious practices are given a vital role in nation-building.

It expressed serious concerns that such activities carried out by a few “thoughtless teachers” would reflect upon those who truly dedicate themselves to the noble task.

The association appealed to all the responsible teachers to rededicate themselves to their profession while keeping themselves away from any “activities” that degrade the teaching profession.

It also requested various committees and all stakeholders, particularly school management committees, to carry out the powers vested on them sincerely.
