The fire that broke out at the ecologically sensitive Dzukou Valley in Nagaland on December 29 is now under control.
This was informed by Kohima Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) – Rajkumar.
“A big team work was in action to prevent the further spread of fire,” said Kohima Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) – Rajkumar.
Ground operations are being carried out by Nagaland Police, Forest Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) volunteers.
“Kohima Police has set up a control room at Dzukou entry point at Viswema village and two relay stations are also set up in resting shed and in the Dzukou base camp to maintain seamless communication with ground operations team,” said Kohima Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) – Rajkumar.
A multi-agency operation is underway in the Dzukou Valley to douse the inferno, with the Army too joining in the efforts.
The Army and the Assam Rifles are assisting the NDRF by providing accommodation and other logistics.
On the other hand, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is continuing with its fire dousing operation at the Dzukou Valley.
The IAF has deployed four Mi-17 helicopters from Dimapur and Rangapahar for Bambi bucket operations in a bid to douse the fire in the Valley.
Meanwhile, the Army has provided its aviation base for the launch of Bambi bucket operations and coordinating ground support, air traffic control, air space management as well as other logistics support to the IAF.
Although the actual reason of the breakout of the fire at the Dzukou Valley is yet to be ascertained, it is speculated that the fire must have broken out due to trekkers or campers leaving their resting site without extinguishing their camp fire.
Dzukou Valley, about 30 kilometres from Nagaland Capital Kohima, is a popular trekking destination, where tourists from abroad and other Indian States pay visit.
The Dzukou Valley is situated along the Nagaland-Manipur interstate border. It is famous for its seasonal flowers and flora & fauna.
The valley is famous for the Dzukou Lily which is found only in this Valley.
