The Nagaland Congress has condemned the “flouting” of Covid19 safety rules by the office-bearers of the Nagaland unit of BJP, who gathered to address a press conference in Kohima on May 13.

The Nagaland BJP held the press conference to explain the contents of their national president JP Nadda’s response letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on the pandemic situation.

In a release, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said Nadda’s response letter should be treated with contempt by all right thinking people.

It said the objective of the press conference was to spread positivity about Narendra Modi government “which is in a freefall unable to control the raging pandemic that has engulfed the nation, affecting people across all sections of the society”.

“While the opposition led by the Congress has come forward to offer constructive suggestions to save the country from total catastrophe, the BJP true to its bloated ego led by PM Modi desperately wants to term the factual position and valid suggestion of the Congress as false propaganda, which is totally uncalled for,” the Nagaland Congress stated.

It recalled that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had warned the government way back on February 12 last year about the pandemic but the BJP government “simply laughed off”.

The NPCC said Rahul Gandhi has been proven right on the pandemic, migrant crisis, economic devastation, vaccine rollout policy and the deadly second wave.

It went on to say that the BJP government had even declared ‘Corona endgame’ in March 2021 and congratulated PM Modi for defeating Covid19.

“Moreover, the government had foolishly exported 6.60 crores of vaccine doses to more than 60 countries and even proudly declared in UN assembly that India gave more Covid vaccine to the world than own people in order to boost the personal image of Modi,” the party stated.

“The truth about devastation happening across the country is unfolding before our very own eyes and this cannot be simply brushed off to suit BJP’s narrative,” the Nagaland Congress said.

It added that as part of the People’s Democratic Alliance government in Nagaland, the state BJP cannot absolve itself from the pitiable condition of the infrastructures and near total breakdown of the state government machinery in dealing with shortage of vaccine, hospital beds, rising Covid19 cases and deaths across the state.

The NPCC reminded the state BJP office-bearers not to keep parroting the contents of their Delhi leaders while remaining oblivious to the death and sufferings happening all around. It also challenged the state BJP leaders to try explaining the positivity of Modi government to those suffering, sick, dying or burying their loved ones.

“They will surely get their answers,” the Nagand Congress said.
