The Barak Extended Team Dimapur has submitted a memorandum to Railway minister Piyush Goyal demanding introduction of passenger from Dimapur railway station to Agartala.
The convenor of Barak Extended Team Dimapur, Solomon S. Shaikh submitted a memorandum on Saturday to Railway minister Piyush Goyal through the advisor to the power department of Nagaland government, Tovihoto Ayemi.
The organisatin has sought the direct passenger train from Dimapur to Agartala for the convenience of several lakhs of people of Barak valley (south Assam) and Tripura, who are residing in Nagaland.
The organization the people of Barak Valley and Tripura, living in Nagaland, are facing untold hardships during the train journey due to non-availability of a direct passenger train from Dimapur railway station to Agartala.
Tovihoto Ayemi gave a patient hearing to the plights of the people during the train journey in the meeting and assured to take up the matter on a priority note with the Railway minister.
The memorandum to the Railway minister said “prior to the resumption of the Dibrugarh-Agartala passenger train service after it was cancelled during the peak days of COVID-19, the plights and difficulties faced by a large numbers of people from Barak Valley (South Assam) and Tripura living in adjoining Assam border areas increased manifold”.
During their “travel from Dimapur railway station to different areas of Barak Valley and Tripura, the train passengers in this route face insurmountable difficulties due to unavailability of direct passenger train service from Dibrugarh to Agartala”, the memorandum said.
It said “several thousands of passengers were compelled to board the train from Dimapur Railway Station at odd hours at night in order to board their destined train from Lumding railway station”.
Hundreds of “passengers after alighting at the Lumding railway station have to wait for 6 to 7 hours at a stretch to board the train from Lumding station to reach their destinations in Barak Valle or in Tripura”, it said.
Saying that they are grateful to Railway minister Piyush Goyal for taking steps to resume the Dibru-garh-Agartala passenger train, the organization urged the Railway minister for introduction of a passenger train from Dimapur railway station to Agartala.
The organization said the introduction of the passenger train will provide better train service to lakhs of people who will be travelling at ease with no difficulties.
The memorandum was signed by the convenor of Barak Extended Team Dimapur Solomon S. Shaikh, youth president Shabir Shahil Shaikh, media secretary Abhijeet Sarkar and its youth general secretary Dilwar Hussain.
