The Mizoram government has sounded alert and set up screening point at Lengpui airport as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus following the confirmation of the first case of the deadly disease in Kerala on Thursday.

An official of state Health department said on Friday that screening counter has been set up at Lengpui and medical team has been deployed and alerted to do regular screening on in-passengers at the lone airport.

He said health minister Dr R Lalthangliana on Thursday convened a meeting with officials of health, home, general administration departments and civil aviation wing to discuss any possible measure to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

He said the meeting constituted a task force to monitor necessary action in connection with coronavirus outbreak.

The meeting also agreed to set up screening counters on all inter-state and international borders at the earliest, he said, adding that the state home department had been instructed to monitor the task.

The official said that there is no report of suspected patient infected with the virus till date.

Meanwhile, the government has consecrated rooms at state premier medical college- Zoram Medical College (ZMC) for treating infected patients while medical staffs were alerted to take action in emergency.

ZMC is located at Falkawn about 16 km from Aizawl.

The government also chalked out plan to send suspected blood sample for laboratory test outside the state of the need arises.
