Mizoram food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department on Tuesday ordered rationing on purchase of diesel and petrol as fuel stock was fast running out following slow movement and stranding of oil tankers due to announcement of containment zone between Hmangkhawthlir and Sethawn areas on Aizawl bypass road.
The order asked all filling stations to rationalise the distribution of fuel based on category or type of vehicles.
The limit fuel intake for scooty (scooter) was fixed at 3 litres per vehicle, 5 litres for other two wheelers, 10 litres for light motor vehicles (LMV), 20 litres for maxicab, pickup truck, 407 or mini truck, gypsy and trucks, 100 litres for city bus and medium truck
Vehicles carrying rice bags and other essential commodities will be allowed to get fuel which will be sufficed for up-down (to and fro) travel, the order said.
Drawing of fuel in containers or gallon barrels from filling stations is strictly prohibited, the order added.
Long lines of vehicles were seen near filling stations in Aizawl and elsewhere since yesterday.
Several pumps in the state capital have become out of stock on Tuesday.
