Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday launched the Micro and Small Entrepreneurs Excellence Project, in collaboration with the Mizoram Entrepreneurs Development Forum, marking a strategic push to scale the stateโs growing small business sector.
The initiative is a joint effort between the state government, the Confederation of Indian Industryโs Centre for Excellence on Employment and Livelihood (CII CEL), and the Volvo Group. Officials said the project aims to equip local MSME owners with technical skills and global industry insights needed to compete in a rapidly evolving economy.
Speaking at the event, Lalduhoma lauded the craftsmanship of the Mizo people, highlighting the sectorโs potential. He cited Mizoramโs recent success at the IndiaSkills North East Championship, where the state emerged as overall champion, as evidence of local talent.
โOur entrepreneurs have built livelihoods through sheer determination. This project will help them reach greater heights. In a global economy shaped by modern business practices, our MSMEs must continuously upgrade their skills to remain competitive,โ Lalduhoma said. He emphasised that the government is committed to nurturing skilled youth and supporting entrepreneurs through flagship handholding schemes.
The Chief Minister also thanked the CII for its expertise in implementing the initiatives and the Volvo Group for supporting the programme through its CSR initiative, which allows local MSME owners to participate free of cost.
Officials said the project will run for an initial period of one year, with 70 participants selected for basic training. In addition to technical instruction, the newly formed Mizoram Entrepreneurs Development Forum will act as a bridge between local business owners and national industry experts.
The inaugural event was attended by officials from CII, including executive director Shalina Thapa and CII CEL director Shivek Gurubaran, as well as GV Rao, director (CSR) of the Volvo Group Trust.
