Mizo National Front (MNF) leader and veteran Chakma politician Rasik Mohan Chakma was sworn in as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of opposition- free Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC).
This is the fourth time since 1999 and the second time in the present council that Chakma became the head (CEM) of the 20-member council headquartered at Kamalanagar in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district.

The present council, which was formed in April 2018, has so far witnessed a change in CEM at least four times.
Lawngtlai deputy commissioner Andrew H. Vanlaldika administered oath of affirmation and oath of office and secrecy to Rasik Mohan Chakma during a swearing-in ceremony held at the council art and cultural hall on Thursday.

Chakma replaced Durjya Dhan Chakma, who had resigned on October 3.
Other council members, officials and leaders of NGOs attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Rasik Mohan Chakma thanked his member colleagues for reposing faith in him to lead the council.
He hailed the present council with all the 20 Members belonging to the MNF party as unprecedented achievement and termed it as opposition-free government.
Chakma lamented the political affairs of the CADC in the last one month as a blot in the history of the council, which had allegedly witnessed outrageous arbitrary abuse of power disqualifying members with absolute disregard of the rules.

He assured those present at the event that he would not allow the guardian or protector of the rule of law to become a violator under his leadership.
Rasik Mohan Chakma has been elected at least five times as a member of the Chakma council from Borapansury constituency since 1993.
The veteran Chakma politician was elected to the state assembly while holding the post of CEM of CADC in 2003.
He resigned as a legislator in 2006 to retain his post in the council.
Chakma was re-elected to the CADC in 2018 election and took over as the CEM in January 2019 to replace Shanti Jiban Chakma of BJP.

He resigned on voluntary ground on March 29 to pave way for Durjya Dhan Chakma, who occupied the CEM office for only about 6 months.
The CADC was created in 1972 for the Chakma tribals living in south-western part of Mizoram.
With Shanti Jiban Chakma, the BJP member to join the MNF recently, the council now is under complete control of the MNF party.
