The powerful Young Mizo Association (YMA)in Mizoram has said that it will ‘obstruct’ Brus, who have been re-settled in Tripura from voting during the by-polls to the Tuirial Assembly constituency on October 30.

“We strongly oppose any measure for arranging special polling booths for the Bru voters in the upcoming by-poll. However, we are okay if they come to exercise their franchise in their respective polling stations in Mizoram on their own,” YMA president Vanlalruata was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

A total of 663 Brus from Mizoram, who were displaced and later re-settled in Tripura are ‘eligible’ to vote during the by-polls to the Tuirial assembly constituency.

The Bru voters now no longer belong to Mizoram as they refused to return to the state during repatriation, he claimed.
