The protesters alleged that the map of Mizoram inaccurately depicts the state’s boundaries.

“We hope the state government will take steps for the settlement of Mizoram and Assam border dispute and protect our forefathers’ land,” MZP president L Ramdinliana Renthlei said.

The MZP president said the Mizoram government had formed a panel to look into the dispute and it has been over three months now but no action has been taken by the committee so far.

The border dispute between Mizoram and Assam has been a long-pending issue. In March 2018, tension erupted in Zophai area near Bairabi town in the Mizoram-Assam border when Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) members attempted to construct a resting shed there.

Students and journalists were seriously injured when the Assam police had resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesting students.
