The Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) published the final electoral roll in the presence of representatives from different political parties of the State at his office on Thursday.

According to the final electoral roll, there are 7,68,181 voters in Mizoram who are eligible to exercise their franchise in the State Assembly elections, slated to be held late November or early December later this year.

The final electoral roll witnessed an increase of 11.19 per cent voters from the 2013 elections in which there were 6,90,860 voters.

There are 3,93,685 female voters in the final roll, outnumbering the male voters by 19,189 votes. There are 3,74,496 male voters.

The CEO S B Shashank said the process of roll revision is being implemented vigorously in all the eight districts of Mizoram and as per the norms of Election Commission of India (ECI), publication has to be made on the number of voters enrolled as of September 27, 2018.

Sashank, on publishing the list of voters in different districts of the state, however, said the figure will differ as the roll revision process will continue till the last day of filing nomination and the figures will be updated every day.

On the other hand, citing an ECI directive, Shashank said that no Bru voters would be allowed to exercise their franchise outside Mizoram in the forthcoming Assembly elections of of the State.

The CEO said they received a total of 47,142 forms, including 25,351 for additions and transfer, 12,452 for deletion, 8,156 for modification and 2,034 for transposition.

There were 20,330 additions and 12,452 deletions, he said.

Of the eight districts, the Aizawl district has the highest number of voters with 2,88,322, while the Siaha district has the least number of 38,843 voters.

He added that preparations for the forthcoming elections to the 40-member State Assembly are going on in full swing.

The meeting was attended by Additional CEOs Lalzarmawii and Krishna Mohan Uppu, Malsawmzuala, Assistant CEO and representatives from PRISM, MPC, ZNP and MNF.
