Mizoram chief electoral officer S B Shashank on Wednesday said that the stolen Bru electoral roll revision would not hamper the election proceedings saying election department of Mizoram “had found a solution.”

Bru electoral roll revision was stolen from Mamit district election office on August 20. A special investigating team was formed and dozens were apprehended on charges of alleged burglary of the roll revision form 6, 7 & 8 of the Bru refugees.

Mizoram election department will publish the final special electoral roll summary revision of all the districts tomorrow.

“The roll revision does not have anything to do with the Bru refugees. The electoral roll of the entire Mizoram has been revised. Unfortunately, few forms were stolen from Mamit district election office. As per the instruction of the Election Commission of India, fresh forms have been processed. We don’t look at the problems but find a solution,” S B Shashank said adding that Brus settling at relief camps in Tripura would be included in the roll revision.

Thousands of Brus have been settling in several relief camps in Tripura for three decades after the Brus left Mizoram fearing an ethnic backlash after some Bru miscreants killed a wildlife game watcher in Mamit district.
