SHILLONG: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma has expressed confidence that the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in the state would complete its full five-year term despite recent electoral setbacks in the LoK Sabha polls.

In the wake of the defeat in the Lok Sabha election, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, also the national chief of the NPP and chairman of MDA, convened a meeting with all coalition partners in the state to address the situation.

Briefing the media, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said that various factors contributed to the NPP’s dismal performance in the recently held Lok Sabha election.

He said: “It will be too premature for me to react to the entire process, but there are many factors, and we have, in fact, had a couple of rounds of meetings already to discuss.”

Furthermore, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, downplayed the Voice of the People Party’s (VPP) significant success in Shillong, attributing it to their anti-corruption stance while asserting that the corruption allegations against the MDA government are unfounded.

“We maintain transparency in our governance. We have nothing to hide and are committed to upholding transparency and accountability,” the Meghalaya CM said.

In response to the VPP’s call for the MDA government to step down, Sangma emphasized that the government was formed based on the mandate given by the people in the assembly election.
