Meghalaya has registered 8 new COVID19 positive cases on Monday night.

With these cases, Meghalaya on Monday recorded the highest ever single-day spike of 16 COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 88.

Out of the new cases, 5 are BSF personnel in Shillong, 2 are from Ri Bhoi and 1 is from Shillong.

“8 more persons have tested positive for COVID19 in the State. 5 BSF personnel in Shillong, 2 from Ri Bhoi and 1 more from Shillong,” chief minister Conrad K Sangma said in a tweet.

With the new cases, the total number of active COVID19 cases in Meghalaya now stands at 44.

Earlier, a total of 43 patients, who were infected by the virus, were discharged after they tested negative for COVID19.

“Total Active Cases 44. Total Recovered Cases 43,” chief minister Sangma tweeted.

The deadly disease has claimed the life of Meghalaya’s first COVID19 positive patient.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status said out of the total 16 new cases registered on Monday, 10 are Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.

The chief minister said a total of 220 high risk contacts of infected BSF personnel have been tested, out of which 210 were found negative and 10 tested positive.

“Today we had 16 new cases out of which 10 were from BSF. A total of 220 High Risk Contacts of BSF were tested. 210 have tested negative and 10 positive. All under quarantine,” chief minister Sangma tweeted.
