Six candidates have filed their nominations for Shella Assembly by-poll to be held on October 21.
The constituency fell vacant after the death of former Meghalaya Speaker, Donkupar Roy.
Four candidates filed their nomination papers on Monday.
The candidates who filed their nominations on Monday are BJP’s Joshua Warjri, Congress candidate Batyngshain Laitmon Ryngnga, People’s Democratic Front’s Mosjo Rockfeller Wanswett and independent candidate Grace Mary Kharpuri.
United Democratic Party candidate Balajied Kupar Synrem, who is the son of the late Speaker, and independent candidate Komen Laitmon filed their nominations last week.

In the 2018 election to the Meghalaya Assembly, Batyngshain Laitmon Ryngnga of the Congress had contested at Shella, and had secured 4,332 votes, and had secured third position.
Donkupar Roy had secured 8,280 votes, and had won by a margin of only 370 votes against Leston Wanswett of the PDF.
In the by-poll, the PDF has fielded his younger brother Mosjo Rockfeller Wanswett. He was an Inspector of Supply in the Meghalaya government before joining politics.
Shella Constituency has 29,582 voters. The last date of filing of nomination papers was September 30.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on October 1 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is October 3.
The counting of votes will be held on October 24.
