In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Meghalaya government has installed 10 handwash facilities for public use in various locations around Shillong.

โ€œ10 Handwash facilities installed for public use in various locations around #Shillong to impress on the need to wash hands to prevent the spread of #COVID?19,โ€ twitted Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

He urged the people to stay safe and informed and said that washing hands for at least 20 seconds is crucial.

In a bid to control the spread of coronavirus, a 24-hour statewide shutdown from Saturday midnight was declared on Friday by the Meghalaya government.

Chief Minister Sangma informed that it will be observed as โ€˜Coronavirus Awareness Dayโ€™ and he urged everyone to follow the protocols.

โ€œWe are calling it coronavirus awareness day and we will ensure we educate our locality and family members about various precautions such as washing hands and social distancing,โ€ he said.

โ€œOne day if we close down everything it will send a message of seriousness to everybody and at the same time people should not panic,โ€ Sangma added.
