Troopers of Border Security Force (BSF) deployed along the Indo-Bangladesh international border at Baghmara in South Garo Hills of Meghalaya on Monday seized nine cattle worth Rs 1.5 lakh which were being smuggled out to Bangladesh.
One Bolero pick up van bearing registration number ML 13-9786 was also seized in the operation.
Notably, frequent seizures of cattle by the alert BSF troops in areas along the international border of Meghalaya indicated a phenomenal increase in smuggling of cattle.
Desperation on the part of cattle smugglers was visibly seen, as they made very daring bids to cross over the cattle to Bangladesh, but they could not succeed.
Smugglers were trying to smuggle cattle from the unfenced area but the alert BSF jawans have been foiling their attempts on number of occasions.
