On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the International Centre for Gandhian Studies (ICGS) will organise an international conference on ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s Vision and Contemporary Political Leadership in North East India’ scheduled to be held on October 5 and October 6, 2018 at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM).
The organisers have called for papers from scholars and all interested individuals for the Conference that will be participated by eminent Gandhain scholars and reputed academicians from across the globe.
Dr Alaka Sarma, Pro VC, USTM and the convener of the conference stated, “Though the Government of India has made special policies for the development of the region yet the ground reality tells us that something is not right. We would like to look at the politico-social developments from the Gandhian perspective, and explore, if we can evolve a way forward. India’s North East being a conflict prone zone, the Gandhian focuses on peace and methods of conflict resolution have more relevance.”
Dr Sarma said that research scholars, college teachers and all interested are invited to come and participate in the deliberations and present papers on themes: Peace and Conflict, Rural Economy, Cooperative Federalism, Social Cohesion, Cattle Protection, Industrialization, Infrastructure Development, Political Ideology, Religion and Society, Gender Issues in Society, Law and Justice, Cultural Nationalism, Media and Social Change, Ethics and Morality, Decolonization, Hind Swaraj, from Swaraj to Suraj, stated a press communiqué.
