Imphal: The proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has claimed responsibility for shooting and injuring a 40-year-old man who was extorting money from civilians in the southern parts of Manipur.
In a statement, the PREPAK said that they had apprehended Meinam Avi Singh (40) on September 5th for his involvement in extortion activities under the guise of the party’s name.
They accused Singh of extorting money from civilians despite previous warnings to cease such activities.
As a result, Singh was shot in the right leg as a first-time punishment. The PREPAK has warned that anyone involved in similar illegal activities would face severe consequences and that individuals who collaborated with Singh are known to the party and should surrender or face harsher punishments.
The announcement comes as police investigate the case, which was registered after Singh was shot at the inter-village road leading to Wangook Warukok village of Kakching district on Friday.
