Guwahati: After renewed violence in Manipur and the alleged failure to control it by the state government, the National People’s Party (NPP) has announced its withdrawal from the BJP-led government in the state.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister-led NPP in a letter to National BJP president, JP Nadda stated that his party will withdraw support to the BJP-led Manipur government.

The NPP also claimed that the decision to withdraw came after Chief Minister N Biren Singh failed to control the situation.

It may be mentioned that the NPP has seven MLAs in Manipur.

However, the BJP still has a majority of seats in the state and there would be no impact on the government even with the withdrawal of support from the NPP.
NPP in the letter to Nadda stated N Biren Singh’s government had failed to contain the Manipur crisis.

It may be mentioned that the Manipur government on Saturday imposed a two-day internet blackout in seven districts of the state after renewed violence in the state.
This move was aimed at quelling rising tensions and ongoing protests by civil society organizations.
A notification issued by Vineet Joshi, Chief Secretary of Manipur, detailed the affected districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur.
The suspension covers various internet services, including mobile data, VSAT, broadband, and VPN.
However, government offices will be exempt from the restrictions for their leased line and FTTH connections.
