Guwahati: The Naharkatia Chamber of Commerce in Dibrugarh, Assam have accused the Bir Lachit Sena of forceful money collection, extortion and hampering their business.
The organisation claimed that the Bir Lachit Sena had been demanding heavy sums of money from businesses in Naharkatia on various occasions.

They alleged that the money demanded was more like an extortion than a charity.

The organisation that met the district administration on Sunday claimed the members of the Lachit Sena also hamper their regular business operations and urged for an intervention.

They alleged that some of the BLS members also demanded to hand over their businesses to BLS members if they failed to pay the demanded money.

A senior businessman from the town stated that while they were ready to pay for any donation to the BLS voluntarily, they were not prepared to be extorted.
He claimed that the BLS had demanded Rs 5 thousand to Rs 50 thousand from the business establishments in the town.
