Guwahati: India’s ambitious strides in the semiconductor industry are exemplified by the development of a semiconductor unit at Jagiroad in Assam.
This project, spearheaded by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt. Ltd. (TSAT), is poised to become one of the country’s premier manufacturing sites, aligning with the national goal of establishing a self-sufficient semiconductor ecosystem.

With an investment of Rs 27,000 crore, the facility is expected to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily, utilising advanced packaging technologies such as flip chip and Integrated System in Package (ISIP).
This facility – designed to cater to essential sectors such as automotive, electric vehicles, telecommunications and consumer electronics – is projected for completion by mid-2025.

The unit not only advances technological development but also brings significant socio-economic benefits by generating 15,000 direct jobs and 11,000 to 13,000 indirect jobs, thereby contributing to the regional economic growth of Assam and surrounding areas.
As a high-capacity production site, the facility’s daily output will cater to both domestic and international markets, positioning India as a competitive player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
The facility is part of a broader network of government-backed initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor production capabilities.
The establishment of the semiconductor unit marks a pivotal step toward fulfilling India’s semiconductor ambitions.
