Guwahati: An FIR has been lodged against a voter accusing him of damaging an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at S Ibobi Primary School within polling station 3/21 in the Khurai Assembly Constituency of Manipur.

He was identified as S Surajkumar, a resident of Khurai Thongam Leikai.

He reportedly found himself in a confusing situation after being informed that his vote had already been cast by unidentified persons.

However, he complained but instead, he faced actions from officials present at the polling station.

Surajkumar raised questions regarding the actions taken by the officials, arguing that he was simply seeking to exercise his fundamental rights as a voter.

Surajkumar recounted when officials inside the polling station failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the alleged pre-casting of his vote. This alleged irregularity led to some individuals entering the polling station and causing damage to the EVM in protest against what they perceived as electoral injustice.

Surajkumar clarified that no harm was intended towards the polling officials during the incident, attributing the turmoil to their alleged negligence in adhering to electoral guidelines.

He also opposed the FIR filed against him, instead calling for a re-polling of station 3/21 to rectify the situation and ensure fairness in the electoral process.

Surajkumar further added that several voters remained unable to cast their ballots.

Furthermore, he said that a formal complaint had been lodged with the deputy commissioner of Imphal East.
