A Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) was inaugurated at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Wangoo Laipham in Manipur’s Kakching district on Sunday.

Manipur health and family welfare minister L Jayantakumar Singh inaugurated the HWC in presence of Kumbi MLA S. Bira along with the director of the state health department, K Rajo.

Minister Jayantakumar also inaugurated a Palliative Care Centre and opened a Mega Health Camp.

An enrollment camp of Chief Minister-gi Hakselgi Tengbang (CMHT) was also held at the same place.

CMHT is a health scheme sponsored by the Manipur government.

Speaking at the inaugural function, minister Jayantakumar said the requirement of doctors and nurses in Wangoo PHC has been fulfilled to meet the medical need of the people of the area.

He also maintained that PHC Wangoo Laipham has already been upgraded to the status of Community Health Centre (CHC) by a sitting of the state Cabinet.

Stating that due to shortage of funds, the present CHC is lacking some of the infrastructures, equipment and staff, the minister assured of posting one new doctor at the CHC, Wangoo Laipham in addition to the present staff strength.

Highlighting the benefits given to those CMHT cardholders by the government, he said through this new health scheme, the cardholders can enjoy free treatment in the empanelled hospitals of the state amounting to Rs 2 lakh, annually.

He further maintained that the amount of health insurance has been increased to Rs 5 lakh for the Prime Minister Jana Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) cardholders.

Manipur now has 25 empanelled hospitals in the state under CMHT including CHCs and UPHCs and state and district hospitals.

“We have another one empanelled hospital in Guwahati – Narayana Superspeciality Hospital,” he added.

In his speech, Kumbi MLA Bira said the schemes of the new government should be welcomed by the people since these schemes are in public interest.

The joint director of health services, Dr Prabin Singh, was also present at the function.
