The 107th birth anniversary celebrations of Major Bob Khathing culminated at the Mantripukhri residence of the legend with Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Major General K P Singh laying wreath at his memorial on Friday.

According to a press release issued by PRO, Assam Rifles (South), the Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles has been conducting a series of sports and cultural events every year to mark the birth anniversary of one of the most illustrious sons of soil who was born in Ukhrul.

The annual Assam Rifles Major Bob Khathing Tournament at Ukhrul features multi sports and cultural events including men’s football, women’s volleyball, baby league football and church choir competitions.

Even the eighth edition of the Major Bob Khathing Tournament which was organized by Assam Rifles, came to an end on February 24 last at the Tangkhul Naga Long ground, Ukhrul with the final of Men’s football.

The final match of the popular tournament of the district was played between Ukhrul United Football Club and Ukhrul Football Club and was won by Ukhrul United football club.

Earlier on February 21, the choir competition saw Phungyo Baptist Church emerge as winners. Women volleyball trophy was lifted by Chameleon which defeated Evergreen in the final match held on February 22.

The mega event finally concluded with wreath laying to mark the legend’s birth anniversary. This year’s wreath laying ceremony saw large attendance including senior Assam Rifles officials, immediate family members John Khathing, Ukhrul MLA Alfred and many dignitaries from Imphal and Ukhrul.
