The eighth edition of the Major Bob Khathing Tournament concluded on Saturday at the Tangkhul Naga Long ground of Ukhrul in Manipur with the final of men’s Football.

The tournament was organized by Assam Rifles.

The final match of the popular tournament of the district was played between Ukhrul United Football Club (UUFC) and Ukhrul Football Club (UFC) and was won by Ukhrul United football club (UUFC).

Earlier on February 21, the Choir competition saw Phungyo Baptist Church emerge as winners. Women Volleyball Trophy was lifted by Chameleon which defeated Evergreen in the final match held on February 22.

Apart from team prizes that were presented during the closing ceremony, individual prizes were given to Rinreichon Shangh as best spiker in volleyball, best player Thangmeiwon Lashing (volleyball), best scorer in football Khanngam Horam (UUFC), best goal keeper Ngaranngan (UUFC). The awards were presented by DIG Brigadier Mohit Seth of 10 Sector Assam Rifles.

The six-day mega event has become a huge symbol of togetheness and collective pride for the Tangkhul legend Major Bob Khathing Ralengnao, a stalwart of the Northeast, who founded the village guard force in the region and Nagaland Armed Police in the 1950s.

Major Bob Khathing had served as the minister in charge of Hills Administration in Manipur, political officer of the then NEFA (North East Frontier Agency) in Arunachal Pradesh, chief secretary of Nagaland and Indian Ambassador to Myanmar. He had passed away on January 12, 1990 at the age of 78. He was honoured with the Padmashree in 1957.

Earlier, the Bob Kathing Baby league football championship to encourage the future stars was held on February 14 and 15 at Ukhrul. The event was won by Ukhrul Football Club.
