In an unfortunate incident on the day of the polls, a young woman electorate immediately after casting her vote in the second phase of general election on Thursday breathed her last at the polling station number 156 at Gelaidingi LP School under Mangaldai LAC.

The deceased has been identified as Bharati Bora Kakati (39), wife of late Tilak Kakati.

As per information, the ill-fated electorate after exercising her democratic right came out of the booth and as she was about ride a Scooty driven by her son, she suddenly collapsed to the ground and lost consciousness.

Although she was immediately taken to Mangaldai Civil Hospital, the doctors on duty declared her to be dead on arrival.

Earlier, in another similar incident that occured two days ago, one constable engaged on election duty in Darrang died of cardiac arrest.

Armed Branch Constable Tilak Hazarika of Dibrugarh District, Executive Force, was deployed on election duty and was camping at ITI complex at the Gerimari area here.

He too was declared brought dead by the doctors on duty at Mangaldai Civil Hospital.
