Prakash Rajkonwar alias Chao Naam Ti Lao, who was arrested from Dibrugarh on charges of being involved in the May 15 grenade blast at Guwahati, was an over-ground worker of the ULFA-I.
Informing this during a press conference in Guwahati, city police commissioner Deepak Kumar said, “Prakash Rajkonwar alias Chao Naam Ti Lao, who has been working for the ULFA-I since 2017, was involved in selection and recruitment of new cadres of the outfit.”

Kumar said, “Police arrested Rajkonwar from Milan Nagar in Dibrugarh in connection with the May 15 grenade blast in Guwahati. He is a retired teacher.”

Rajkonwar was taken to Guwahati on Sunday night for interrogation.

“He is currently being interrogated by police at Latashil police station,” added Kumar.
The city police commissioner also informed that arrested Rajkonwar had coordinated with pro-talk ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru and Jahnabi Saikia, a little-known TV actor, who were earlier arrested by the police on charges of being involved in the blast.

The top cop also revealed that the police have received information about Rajkonwar’s involvement in various anti-national activities.
“Police have been continuing investigation into the case and those, against whom there is information of involvement with ULFA-I, will be picked up and interrogated,” Kumar further said.

Rajkonwar was arrested from a rented house owned by Sundar Rajkonwar.
Police seized one computer and four mobile handsets from the possession of Rajkonwar, who worked as a teacher at Dirak LP School.

Eleven persons, including two SSB jawans were injured in the May 15 grenade blast in Guwahati .
The banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) had claimed responsibility for the blast.
Earlier, police also arrested Chinmoy Laskar, Indra Mohan Bora, Bijoy Asom, Amit Ballav Goswami and Sanjib Talukdar in connection with the incident.
