Dibrugarh police on Sunday arrested one Prakash Rajkonwar alias Chao Naam Ti Lao, 65, from Milan Nagar in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on charges of his involvement in the May 15 grenade blast in Guwahati.
He was arrested from the rented house owned by Sundar Rajkonwar. Police seized one computer and four mobile handsets from his possession. He is retired teacher of Dirak LP School.
Eleven persons, including two SSB jawans were injured in a grenade blast in Guwahati on May 15. The banned ULFA (I) claimed responsibility for the blast.
Police officials said a team of Guwahati police on Sunday arrived in Dibrugarh after receiving input about the involvement of Rajkonwar and arrested him from a rented house in Dibrugarh.
Both Dibrugarh and Guwahati police integrated him in Dibrugarh police station. For further investigation he is being taken to Guwahati and he will be produced in court on Monday.
Although police refused to share details, they revealed that Rajkonwar kept close contact with the Guwahati blast accused and used to stay with them during his visit there.
Police earlier had said that Bijoy Asom, who was arrested from Doomdooma in Tinsukia district on May 21 in connection with the blast, hurled the grenade on May 15 in front of the Guwahati Central shopping mall.
Police earlier also arrested Jahnabi Saikia, a little known TV actor and her associate, pro-talk ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru besides three others—Chinmoy Laskar, Indra Mohan Bora and Amit Ballav Goswami.
Both Jahnabi and Pranamoy were arrested from a rented house in city’s Panjabari area while former ULFA rebel Amit was held from Golaghat. Chinmoy and Indra were apprehended from Guwahati and Nagaon respectively.
According to police, Chinmoy, a resident of city’s Christianbasti area, joined ULFA (I) few months back and Indra worked as linkman of the outfit.
