Police on Sunday arrested the prime accused in the triple-murder case of June 26 of Fakiragram in Western Assam’s Kokrajhar district.
Police officials said the arrested accused has been identified as Sarbananda Barman of Kijurbari Jogdoi village under Fakiragram police station of the district.
24-year-old Sarbananda has confessed to the crime and police have recovered an iron rod used in the murder.
Police said Sarbananda in the intervening night of June 26 hacked three members of a family to death in Mukhigaon village under Fakiragram police station.
The deceased were identified as Tipul Rai, 34, his wife Moromi Rai, 25 and daughter Anjumoni Rai, 3.
After committing the crime, Sarbananda threw the sharp weapon used in the murder into the nearby Hel river. Police have began search operation in the river with the help of SDRF personnel to recover the weapon.
According to police, accused Sarbananda had an illicit affair with Tipul Rai’s wife Moromi Roy.
